How to make so that the users of OroTimesheet are able or not to modify the connections list

The information in this article applies to :
OroTimesheet 4.x (English)
OroTimesheet 4.x (French)

Description
In some cases, you would like users to be able to modify the connections list to the OroTimesheet database(s). In other cases you would like that only network administrators can do that (not confuse with the employees who have the administrator rights in OroTimesheet).

Solution
The connections list is kept in the "CONX.INI" file on each computer in the OroTimesheet installation folder (usually "C:\Program Files\OroLogic\OroTimesheet4").

If the user using OroTimesheet has "write access" to the "CONX.INI" file, he will be able to modify the connections list on his computer. If the user only has "read access" to this file, even if the user modify the connections list from the connections manager utility, these connections will not be saved when the user will quit the utility.

Note on the installation program of OroTimesheet (Version 4.01):
The installation program only made a copy of the "CONX.INI" file to the installation folder and whatever the installation folder was on an NTFS drive. By this way, if the drive was FAT or FAT32, the user had automatically write access the the "CONX.INI" file. If the folder was on an NTFS drive, the user could access the "CONX.INI" file depending on its level of security.

Note on the installation program of OroTimesheet (Version 4.02 or greather):
Since the version 4.02, if the installation is made on an NTFS drive, the installation program change the sesurity for the "CONX.INI" file giving read/write access to all users.

Other information
For NTFS drives, change the security on the "CONX.INI" file depending on what you want the users be able to do. Note that all users need at least read access to the "CONX.INI" file to allows OroTimesheet to run properly.

For drives other than NTFS, no security is available for the "CONX.INI" file. The only thing you can do is setting the "Read only" attribute for this file. By doing that, nobody will be able to modify the connections list. You will need to remove the "Read only" attribute on this file if you want to make changes to the connections list.

Note that its also possible to indicate to the connections manager to read parameters for a specific connection from a file on your network. Refer to the sections "Installing OroTimesheet 4" and "Connections manager" in the online help of OroTimesheet 4 for more information.
