| The information in this article applies to : OroTimesheet 4.x (English) OroTimesheet 4.x (French) Description OroTimesheet 4 is a client/server software, developed to be executed on the Windows operating system (Win32 software). Unlike software developed to be executed over the web, one of the benefits of a Win32 software is the execution speed. Moreover, Win32 software bring to the users, a lot of functionalities usually not available when using web software.
For example, when you use OroTimesheet 4 and want to change the sort order of data on the screen, or simply enter data into the software, this kind of operation is instantaneous. On the contrary, when using web software, each operation can take a while to be executed since the Web server must receive, process, then send a response to each request of a user (for example a mouse click). Moreover, several functionalities of a Win32 software cannot be available in a web software. However, web software have other benefits. One of the major benefits is that a user connected through a network (Internet, Intranet, Lan, Wan, etc.) can run the software from anywhere, using a simple web browser. Now, it's possible to run a Win32 software such as OroTimesheet 4 from your Microsoft Internet Explorer browser. This way, you do keep all the functionalities of OroTimesheet 4 and at the same time, you get all the benefits of a web software. Indeed, Microsoft has developed a new ActiveX called "Terminal Services Advanced Client" (TSAC) for Windows 2000 Server and Windows NT 4 (Terminal Server Edition). The TSAC is a Win32-based ActiveX control (COM object) that can be used to run Terminal Services sessions within Microsoft Internet Explorer. The downloadable Remote Desktop Web Connection ActiveX control provides most of the same functionality as the full Remote Desktop Connection software; however, the Remote Desktop Web Connection is designed to deliver this functionality over the Web.
