| #FAQ: 10024-EN, Date: 7/9/2001 How to register a server and a database in the "IBConsole" utility to make it part of the servers and database's list . |
| The information in this article applies to : GDS 2000 PRO (English) GDS 2000 PRO (French) Description The INTERBASE's "IBConsole" utility included with GDS 2000 PRO is used to manage INTERBASE databases. Before accessing a database through this utility, you need to register the database you want to access and also the server where the database is located on. Solution If INTERBASE is installed on a LINUX server, you need to have the "Super Server" version of INTERBASE installed on your LINUX server to be able to use the "IBConsole" utility mentionned in the procedure below. If you have the "Classic Server" version of INTERBASE installed on your LINUX server, refer to the "Operations Guide" manual in the INTERBASE documentation to use the command line utility instead of "IBConsole" to manage your databases.
How to register a new server in the "IBConsole" utility to make it part of the servers's list : Note that if you run the "IBConsole" utility from the server where INTERBASE is installed on, you do not have to register your server. Use the "Local Server" which is already available in the servers list. 1- Run the "IBConsole" utility included with GDS 2000 PRO. 2- Select the "Server" menu then the "Register" option. 3- From the "Server name" field type the server name where INTERBASE is installed. Else if you use the "TCP/IP" protocol, you must type the server name and not an ip address. Using an ip address instead of a server name is not supported by INTERBASE. If you are using the "NetBEUI (NamedPipe)" protcol, type the "Windows" name of the server. 4- From the "Network Protocol" combobox, select the network protocol used. "TCP/IP" or "NetBEUI" 5- From the "Alias" field, type an alias name for your server. You can type the same name as your server name. 6- Type "SYSDBA" in the "User Name" field, "masterkey" in the "Password" field and click the "OK" button. (If you have changed the password for the "SYSDBA" INTERBASE user, type the new password in the "Password" field instead of "masterkey"). 7- Your server is now registered and displayed in the "IBConsole" utility. How to register a database in the "IBConsole" utility to make it part of the database's list under a server: 1- Run the "IBConsole" utility included with GDS 2000 PRO. 2- Double click on the server where the database is located on. 3- Type "SYSDBA" in the "User Name" field, "masterkey" in the "Password" field and click the "OK" button. (If you have changed the password for the "SYSDBA" INTERBASE user, type the new password in the "Password" field instead of "masterkey"). 4- Select the "Database" menu, then the "Register" option. 5- From the "File" field type the complete path and database name of the database to register. The database path must be local to the server and not a network path. For example, if the GDS 2000 PRO database file "GDS2000P.GDB" is located in the "C:\DATA\GDS 2000 PRO" folder on your INTERBASE server, type "C:\DATA\GDS 2000 PRO\GDS2000P.GDB" in the "File" field. 6- In the "Alias" field, type an alias for your database or leave the default alias which is the database filename. 7- Type "SYSDBA" in the "User Name" field, "masterkey" in the "Password" field and click the "OK" button. (If you have changed the password for the "SYSDBA" INTERBASE user, type the new password in the "Password" field instead of "masterkey"). Then, from the "Default Character Set" field, select "ISO8859_1" and click the "OK" button. 7- Your database is now registered and displayed in the "IBConsole" utility. Status OK |
